Westports Malaysia has reached a significant milestone in 2025, recording an outstanding 11.3 million TEUs in container throughput and 12.8 million metric tonnes of conventional cargo volume. This achievement marks a new benchmark for the port, surpassing our previous record set in 2024.
A new record monthly throughput of 1,326,000 metric tons for our Conventional Cargo in October 2025, surpassing our previous record of 1,248,000 metric tons achieved in July 2025. This milestone covers break bulk, dry bulk, and liquid bulk cargo operations.
Westports Holdings Berhad won gold in the Best of the Best category, a new category introduced at The Edge Malaysia ESG Awards 2025 on Wednesday, which celebrates the most consistent performers in ESG over the past three years.

Westports has officially launched its state-of-the-art Automated Gate System (AGS), marking a significant step forward in modernizing gate operations to enhance speed, security and efficiency at the Terminal’s container entry points.
The AGS integrates advanced technologies such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for automated container number recognition, real-time damage detection and digitalisation of gate entry process. This innovative system reflects Westports’ continued commitment to digital transformation and sets a new benchmark in delivering smarter and seamless port experience.

Westports proudly held a launching ceremony for the Liquid Bulk Terminal 4A, marking another milestone in its commitment to enhancing port infrastructure and efficiency. This new facility is set to strengthen Westports capabilities in handling liquid bulk cargo, supporting the region’s growing logistics and trade demands.
The LBT4A is also built with advanced safety features to ensure secure and efficient operations. Some of these features include a fire monitor tower, hydrant and foam systems, quick-release hook bollards, and a berthing aid system.

We are proud to announce a significant milestone in our vessel operations! On February 8th, the dry bulk vessel EVER GRAND achieved an exceptional across-vessel productivity rate of 724 MT/H while discharging wheat cargo, surpassing the 2024 record of 695 MT/H. Additionally, we set a new operational benchmark with the highest hourly rate of 904 MT/H, exceeding the previous record of 850 MT/H, accomplished with just one unloader on a single vessel.

Westports Malaysia has officially launched Remote Reefer Monitoring System (RMS) on the 14th of February 2023, establishing a non-stop, round the clock remote management of refrigerated containers that allows realtime visibility, accuracy and alerts from reefer container related to temperature changes, container monitoring and well controlled operating condition such as humidity and CO2 levels. The initiative aims to enhance Westport’s operational efficiency, cargo integrity and occupational safety through the provision of innovative solutions for clients and to capture the potential business opportunities related to the cold chain logistics market.
RAM Ratings has reaffirmed the AAA/Stable rating of Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s (Westports or the Company) RM2.0 bil Sukuk Musharakah Programme (2011/2031).
The rating reflects the Company’s critical function as the operator of Malaysia’s largest container handling terminal and a key transhipment hub in the region (the Port) as well as its resilient financials. Westports’ competitive position is anchored by its strategic location along the Straits of Malacca – one of the world’s busiest shipping routes – combined with its strong operational capabilities and well-established relationship with international shipping liners. The Company’s concession under its Privatisation Agreement (PA) with the Port Klang Authority and the Government of Malaysia runs up to 2054.
OOCL United Kingdom, the world’s largest container ship, made her maiden call to Westports on 26th October 2018. This Ultra-Large Container Vessel (ULCV) with carrying capacity of 21,413 TEUs, is one of the carrier’s six ‘G Class’ vessels and they are currently the world’s largest container ship. Westports accommodated this ULCV at our deep-water terminal CT8 where she was handled by 9 high performance ship-to-shore cranes.
Westports received an Approval-in-Principle from the Government of Malaysia in a letter dated 23 August 2017, to expand its container terminal facilities from CT 10 to CT19, which is an extension from the current CT1 to CT9 development. The Proposed Expansion can potentially increase the total handling capacity of Westports up to 30 million TEUs per annum
COSCO Shipping Lines’ biggest container ship, the COSCO Shipping Galaxy, made her maiden call at Westports on 3rd July. With maximum carrying capacity of 21,237 TEUs and 400 meters length overall, it is the third 21,000 TEU Ultra-Large Container Vessel (ULCV) of COSCO Shipping Lines.
Westports accommodated this ULCV at our deep-water terminal CT9 where she was handled by 5 high performance ship-to-shore cranes making a total of 3,275 moves
COSCO Shipping Solar, the mega-containership, made her maiden call at Westports on 9th June. The 21,237 TEUs Ultra-Large Container Vessel (ULCV) would be the largest containership to berth at one of the countries ports.
Westports achieved another milestone by handling a record container volume of 9.95 million TEUs in 2016, which was an improvement of 10% over the previous year’s 9.05m TEUs, which was also a record volume then.
Westports Malaysia has launched its magnificent new multi-purpose hall equipped with the state of the art facilities on 20th September. The new facility, to be known as the T.A.N.S.R.I.G. Culture Hall, was officiated by and named after our Executive Chairman. The hall can accommodate up to 600 people and can host international championships, cultural events and also school sports and training activities.
UASC’s 18,800 TEU container vessel MV Barzan made its maiden call at Westports on 4th June 2015.
CMA’s 18,000 TEU container vessel MV CMA CGM Kerguellen made its maiden call at Westports on 20th April 2015.

Hamburg Sud, the 12th largest container carrier in the world, is the latest shipping line making Westports its home at Port Klang. Its vessel “Cap San Marco” (9,600 TEU), one of 12 units between 8,500 and 9,600 TEU deployed in the South America Service (ASIA 2), called at Westports Malaysia for the first time on 20th July.
We have completed the 300-meter quay length of CT 6 Phase 2 expansion. The new terminal will mark another milestone to our port as it was designed to handle 18,000 TEU capacity vessels which is the largest in the world in the orderbook.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha launched celebrations marking Westports achieving 50 million TEUs and the berth of the world’s largest container ship “MV CMA CGM Marco Polo” at Westports.
Our total volume handled for the whole year is 6.9 Mil TEU, rose by 8% against 6.4 Mil TEU last year. Port Klang recorded 10.0 Mil TEU, 4% increased against 2011.

China Shipping Container Lines Co. Ltd (CSCL) would continue to make Westports Malaysia in Port Klang its mega transshipment hub in South-East Asia. Mr. Ma Zehua, Vice President of China Shipping (Group) Company gave the commitment and assurance when he met Tan Sri G. Gnanalingam, Westports Executive Chairman at the port on March 3. Westports operations team once again shown their dexterity and skills in container handling
when they managed to hit crane productivity of an awesome 734 moves in a single hour of operations with a nine-crane deployment. This feat was achieved on March 9 with CSCL Pusan, a 9,600 TEU vessel belonging to China Shipping.

First port in Port Klang to hit 3 million TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalent units)which firmly placed us on the road to achieve a total container throughput of 3.7 million TEUs for 2006.
We also notched a record 345,000 TEUs for October, which was the highest volume recorded for a single month this year.
We hit crane productivity with a speed of 452 moves in a single hour of operations with an eight-crane deployment.
We set a new world record of 421 moves per hour, shattering our previous record of 368 moves per hour achieved three years ago. This was achieved when moving boxes from the MV Rossini which was at the berth for a total of 11.5 hours.

Our Conventional Operation team at Westports’s Dry Bulk Terminal II achieved a productivity of more than 100%. This unprecedented record was performed whilst working on MV Genco Pioneer.
Our Container Group B (B’ Bravo) set a new record by moving 3346 boxes in a single shift.
Our Dry Bulk Team unloaded 9,540 MT of maize in 8 hours from the vessel MV Enterprise.
Our container gate team recorded a turnaround time of an average of 15.5 minutes.
Our container gate team achieves haulage turnaround time with an average of 19 minutes.
Our operations team achieved the highest number of moves per vessel, at 2,807 moves.

We received endorsement and initial approval from the Marine Department for complying with IMO’s ISPS Code. Westports adopts the ISPS standard.
Our container operations reached another milestone with Group D achieving an average productivity of 41 moves per hour (MPH) for the entire shift.

Another ‘First’ was recorded when 8,250 mt crude palm oil was loaded on MT Flores at the Liquid Bulk Terminal.
CT3 added 2 additional berths bringing the total wharf length to 2000 metres and 7 berths, further reducing the waiting time of vessels and increasing terminal handling capacity of 2.5 million TEUs.
A total of RM80 million was invested into port equipment, beefing up the productivity potential and efficiency of the port.

A world record of 264 moves per hour was achieved when the world’s largest ship, MV Clifford Maersk called Westports.
Two US Navy ships, the USS Constellation (an aircraft carrier) and USS Lake Erie (a cruiser), berthed at Westports. Carrying an entourage of 5,800, they were on a five-day goodwill visit to Malaysia, and helped contribute about RM 20 million a day to the local economy.

A new Fastport standard of 20,004 MT dry bulk was achieved on MV Polska Walazaca.
The 21st Worlds Port Conference of the International Association of Ports and Harbours was held in Kuala Lumpur. Delegates to the conference took some time out to visit Westports and were impressed by its modernity and facilities that are world class. The Westports safety week was launched by Datuk Ir Mohd Annas bin Hj Mohd Noor to instill safety consciousness among the staff.
The Westports Fertilizer Terminal Sdn Bhd became operational. It is the country’s most advanced integrated fertilizer handling complex, equipped with modern technology for receiving, handling, storing, transhipping and transporting fertilizers.
One of the world’s largest container vessels, Regina Maersk, berthed at Westports. Having the length of a football field, the vessel was the largest of its kind to ever dock in Malaysian waters. A record 204 moves per hour was performed on this vessel.
Westports signed a terminal partnership agreement with Evergreen Marine Corporation of Taiwan. Their first vessel to dock at Westports was MV Univalue.
Westports ventured into the feedering business by launching Westports Express Service. Thus, it became the first terminal operator in the region to initiate its own feedering service from feedering service from ports of Penang and Johor, to Westports.
Hanjin shipping brought the first five of 5,000 TEU class vessels to Westports and added a direct call to the west coast of USA, saving shippers four days in transit time.
Westports handled the biggest re-export traffic when it moved 34,790 metric tones of maize for Cargill (M) Sdn Bhd. The maize was imported from Argentina and re-exported to Vietnam aboard a special dry bulk carrier, MV Navigator.
MV Naples and MV Villa, belonging to France’s No. 1 shipping line, Compagnie Maritime D’Affretement (CMA), berthed for the first time at Westports.
Westports began offering bunkering services for vessels plying the Port Klang shipping route. It became the first port in Malaysia to offer such services.
Westports integrated with Sistem Maklumat Kastam, enabling freight forwarders and agents to do the processing of customs documentation online.
Inaugural direct call by MV Hanjin San Francisco to Westports. The vessel was the first to be phased in for their Asia Europe (Pendulum) service.
Commencement of operations at the first of two containers terminals. MV Norasia Kiel, of Europe based Norasia Lines, became the first container ship to call at Westports. The inauguration of the direct call of AE2, service provided by Maersk Line of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Sealand Service of Charlotte, USA.
Westports, Malaysia’s newest and most advanced port, was officially opened by former Prime Minister Dato Seri Dr.Mahathir Mohamad. The former Prime Minister also officiated the opening of the motor vehicle terminal (VTC) at Westports for the shipment cars. The VTC employs state-of the art technology and is reputed to be the best in the region.
The Liquid Bulk Terminal commenced operations with its first customer being Mobil Sdn Bhd.
